Kodiak Brown Bear

Pursuing Kodiak’s big Brown Bear can be one of the greatest hunting adventures in North America! We are based out of a wilderness lodge and/or comfortable base camp. This is an extreme, backpack, expedition style hunt where big, mature, Kodiak bears are the goal and typically the outcome. Backpacking from lightweight spike camps with food and sleeping bags, allow the hunter to access unspoiled areas and hunting time is maximized. This is a huge advantage when it comes to hunting these old boars as they are most active late in the day. This is the ultimate spot-and-stalk hunt and our hunters have taken several stalks per hunt. Kodiak Brown Bear hunts require extreme hiking and backpacking. Most bears taken on this hunt will be 9 + feet with some 10 footers. Being able to access the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge and hunt it’s giant bears is a privilege and because permits are limited. In recent years, we have been 100% shooting opportunity for big Kodiak Brown Bears. We assist clients in processing limited draw permit applications to ADF&G.

Spring Brown/Grizzly Bear hunts: Spring hunts are conducted from mid-May through early June, when bears emerge from hibernation and move to areas where the first sprouts of vegetation occur on south facing mountain-sides. Boars are searching for sows during the spring mating season and pair up. We glass for bears from base camps or nearby ridges or do raft float hunts on rivers, creeks and lakes until we find the best trophy possible and do spot-and-stalk hunts. Spring hunts have long daylight hours for hunting.

Clients are responsible for commercial airline travel to/from Kodiak and air charter service to/from base camp. We suggest you arrive 1-2 days prior to your hunt commencing, to purchase Alaska hunting license, Brown/Grizzly bear tag, any additional hunting gear or personal items you may need. We assist clients in coordinating air charter service to/from base camp. Air charter fees are determined by type of float plane/aircraft (Cessna 206, Bush Hawk, DeHavilland Beaver or Widgeon) and length of flight. Air charter flights have passenger and weight restrictions. You may not hunt on the same-day-airborne. For departure schedule, recommend 1-2 days in Kodiak for taxidermy trophy care or expediting trophy from Kodiak to taxidermist of your choice. We recommend purchasing airline tickets with flexible change policies in the event of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances that may affect your airline travel.
